“The Bachelor” Season 20, Episode 1: Points

And we’re off! What a season premiere. We have a perfect human specimen Bachelor, a delightful gaggle of wackos and beauties, a full-on Russian woman, plus one delightful miniature horse (who got sent home with Maegan; goodbye, little dude).

Also, I’ve never seen so many Laurens/Lauras in one room since the fourth grade.

How is your team faring after episode one? I personally drafted Jessica, and I was shocked—SHOCKED, I tell you—that she didn’t get a rose. I was even predicting final four for her. My Bach senses are rarely so off kilter. I might have to retreat to the woods and retrain with Yoda for a few weeks.

Any early predictions for a final rose winner? Let us know in the comments!

I am using your spreadsheet and the scores on the Ep#1 spreadsheet do not look correct. i.e. I chose Olivia, and the score in her box is 0, however the score in Shushanna shows 35. I didn’t choose Shushanna. Am I doing something wrong? I had a look at the formulas, and they don’t look right for some of the girls. Can you let me know? I am a new commish so want to get it right off the bat.
    Thanks!
    Sue

    • Leslie says:

      Thank happened for me too

    • I had to overhaul the whole Episode 1 sheet. I’m wondering if we downloaded the old version? I haven’t looked at next week’s sheet. If the formulas are wonky on that one too I might just enter the points manually. I only have 11 people in my group, “Here For The Right Reasons.” Sidenote: I am so glad I picked Lace! She won’t last the long haul, but she earned me 85 points last night! Woo hoo!

      • Bach Fantasy says:

So sorry about this. Just re-posted the updated one in a new post. Check the homepage for the latest version!

Also, Lace definitely brought it last night! She won’t win the war, but it looks like she might win a few battles in the meantime.

    • Dan C. says:

There is an error in the scoring spreadsheet that you’ll need to correct, but not a major one. If you drag the first box for contestant score to the right (until the final player in your league), and then down (to the final contestant) it should be corrected. In other words, carry the first formula for scoring/contestant throughout the sheet (all sheets) and it’s good.

So sorry about this. Just re-posted the updated one in a new post. Check the homepage for the latest version!

  2. Maria C says:

No points for Samantha crying in her intro?

  3. DeeFlo says:

That also is happening to me as well. It starts at about Calia or Izzy when the numbers don’t add properly

  4. Jessica Evans says:

Shouldn’t Olivia get points for getting to stay another week?

    • Bach Fantasy says:

No. Olivia received the First Impression Rose and that counts for staying another week. That’s why it’s such a high point amount.

      • spenatalie says:

I think it should be worth at least double a normal rose! But maybe that’s just me being jealous/shocked someone in my league picked Lace. This is our first year participating – thanks for making it so easy to run by doing all of the scoring for us!

    • Erin says:

@Spenatalie We had 3 people in my league pick Lace including myself. Who would have thought she would not only get drunk, self-destruct, and get a rose? She won’t last long, but that unique brand of crazy earns the big points!

  5. Colleen says:

The formulas for your spreadsheet are incorrect for most of the ladies causing the wrong women to get points. Do you mind fixing the spreadsheet and reposting? Thanks!

  6. Melanie says:

Totally agree re: Jessica! I said out loud “she’s the Jade of this season”!

  7. Shannon "ShannieRiebs" Riebe says:

Will you be fixing the scoring spreadsheet and putting it out there? I can’t live without that thing!!! Makes scoring soooo much easier! BTW, really appreciate the work you gals put into this. It is our leagues 3rd season with Bach Fantasy and we live for this :)

  8. Lisa says:

Thank you! I was sure I was going to scramble some points together for Maegan bringing a horse (she was my last pick and obvious runt of the litter) but luckily Lace made up for my picks that brought me goose eggs. Speaking of girls that got 0 points, I picked Laura out of pure ginger comradery knowing she wasn’t going to make it past the first round, (Life lesson: Red heads never do.) but redheads stick together and I took one for the team. Of course he isn’t into redheads, sweet Laura. Didn’t start off as strong as I would’ve liked but my team is promising and I’m excited for the season!

    • Bach Fantasy says:

Great team name! I too picked Laura thinking she might be a dark horse who goes the distance. She was so cute and normal! Ben made a mistake letting her go so early in the season. She kinda broke my heart when she said, “Some guys just don’t like redheads.” Laura was one of the prettiest on the show, in my humble opinion.

  9. Jake says:

Pretty Sure lace cried, why didn’t she get credit. She even wiped away her face, so there was clearly moisture!

    • Bach Fantasy says:

It’s a tough call but contestants dab at those crocodile tears all day long. We made the rule that you had to see a tear fall physically out of the eye otherwise we’d have to award points anytime an eyeball looked teary! We’ll be consistent with this throughout the season, so worry not.

I’m sure Lace will squirt some real tears next week.

    • First thank you so much for putting this together!!! And second Jessica was an upset in my league..several peaple picked her.

  10. Lila says:

Are the points typed out on this post correct? I am not using the spreadsheet so I just want to make sure I’m still getting the correct scores.

    • Mary says:

Lila – Make sure you come back later in the week. The ladies here tend to rewatch the episodes and update the scores :) You’ll have a good time this season.

  11. Dan says:

Great post! Excited for another season, looking forward to all the ridiculousness!

Only one question about points: Chris Harrison sort of brings up Becca’s virginity when he’s talking to her, and Becca says something about Ben being the right man or something. Do you think this would count as “discussing her virginity?”

    Thanks!

    • Bach Fantasy says:

Oooh, Dan. That’s an interesting point. I’d say no for now because that’s a little too roundabout. But I like where your head’s at and I’ll keep my ears pricked for a more direct mention of her V-card.

  12. Ben says:

Where can I find the updated points for Episode 2?

  13. Christina Gibson says:

here are the scores from last week’s episdoe!!

  14. Courtney says:

that are some creative team names!!

  15. Joe says:

General rule/category interpretation question: my wife went back and rewatched the intros for our league (yikes), and noted that Amanda referenced being divorced, but didn’t specifically mention an ex. Should this score?

We’ve generally read this category as scoring for telling stories about a person (“my ex-husband was a drinker, my ex-boyfriend cheated on my with our dogsitter”), rather than acknowledging their previous relationship status (“i have dated before”).

    • Bach Fantasy says:

Hi Joe – we would agree with you on this. Amanda came close by referencing being divorced, but we need a little more than acknowledging that she has in fact had a past relationship.

  16. Melissa says:

What was the wildcard category for week one?
