Season 13, Episode 3: Points

Whaboom vs. Aspiring Drummer was the TV feud I didn’t know I needed. We were laughing so hard we upset the dog.

giphy-1.gif

The Bach needs more Ellen, less urban horseback riding, and more mud-wrestling (but only with the dudes).

We didn’t give Bryce points for talking shit about another contestant, by name — because he didn’t talk to the Bachelorette, he told Raven and Company. Oh my god, that’s the name of my new distressed jeans company.

Wildcard points were going to be 15 to the first guy to comfort Rachel about DeMario, but no one really did. So, two weeks with no wildcard points. We’ll try and get a good category next week.

ALSO LIFE UPDATE: both yo’ girls are now living in Denver. We’re trying to get back on the East Coast/Midwest live tweet stream…but in the meantime, we’ll be tweeting on mountain time.

  1. Alex says:

Wouldn’t DeMario get 50 points for coming back to beg for another chance? And I thought Blake would get 35 at least because he also talked shit about Lucas to the bachelorette?

    • Melanie says:

Hi! DeMario was awarded those points last week, so he doesn’t get them again this week.

    • Bach Fantasy says:

DeMario got those points last week! And yeah, Blake didn’t really “talk shit” about Lucas — he just defended himself about the banana because he doesn’t eat carbs. (lololol)

  2. Jessie says:

I thought I remembered Dean and Rachel kissing but I could be wrong. It would have been during the group date.

    • Michelle says:

He did! It was a quick shot during an overall montage of her talking to the guys during the after-wrestling group date party.

      • Melanie says:

        Confirmed! They smooched.

Also calling right now that they are setting Dean up to be the next Bachelor.

    • Bach Fantasy says:

Good call, thanks, Jessie! Updating now.

  3. Melanie says:

Hello Queen Bees! First of all, props to you for scoring this episode. Points GALORE.

    Here are my questions/comments:
    1) Anthony should get an additional 25 points because he got a rose on the one-on-one to stay another week. So he should get two sets of 25 points.

    2) Anthony briefly donned a cowboy hat. Does that count as clothing from another culture?

    3) I watched VERY INTENSELY and since Jack went up against Kenny, he actually did NOT push or shove any contestant. Kenny just straight up man handled him. So I’m not sure about awarding points to him for basically just playing a dummy while Kenny tossed him around. What do you think? I could be convinced.

    4) I’m really struggling with the Blake thing. He’s such a little bitch. In terms of points, I agree with you that he shouldn’t get points for talking shit about Lucas to Rachel because he was basically just reacting to the allegations of Whaboom’s banana fantasies. But in terms of points, he didn’t actually tell Rachel that Whaboom isn’t there for the right reasons. He told the camera that. So I think Blake should be headed home with zero points. As the Billy Madison quote goes, “I award you zero points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”

In other news. Are Lucas and Corinne a match made in heaven?

    • Kris says:

      OMG Lucas and Corinne!!! YESSSSSSSSS!!!

    • Sara says:

Melanie & Bach ladies… I’m here!!! Was taking a snooze this week, or something.

      1) I think those points are already there (or have been corrected)

      2) Personally going with no because I wear cowboy boots regularly here in the Northeast and I don’t want to view myself as appropriating another culture :)

      3) I’m taking a more generous look at ‘shove’ as per the stiff-arming Lucas did last episode that counted so am going with as listed.

      4) So I agree with you here. Blake E.’s exact quote in the confessional is “I told Rachel in our one-on-one time that Lucas is here for the wrong reasons because that’s never changed.” However, since those exact words need to be said and it’s only hearsay that he used those exact words, I wouldn’t give the points.

      5) NO Corinne is a delight and Lucas is the worst.

      • Sara says:

        4) Further clarification – official rules are below and so for me the sticking point is not that Blake told the ITM camera vs. Rachel (telling the Bachelorette is not a requirement per the points category). What I rule against is that Blake said “wrong reasons” rather than “is not here for the right reasons.” Since it’s listed in the points in quotation marks, I’m going with letter of the law not spirit of the law on this one.

Saying that someone in the house “is not here for the right reasons” (15 points) [UPDATED IN 2017]

    • Bach Fantasy says:

      Hi Melanie!

      1) Thank you for this catch!!! We updated on Tues and forgot to respond to this comment :)

      2) We discussed this one at length while it happened and decided that it’s not *really* a culture. But close!

      3) We decided to give them all shoving points because of the spirit of the competition but I could also be convinced…we might need to be clearer about that category next season. But also, we rewound the Kenny-Jack Stone body slam several times. That is TV gold. Also, I don’t even think Jack was hurt at all because Kenny is so good at what he does. Damn.

      4) Blake and Whaboom…UGH. You’re right that he said “wrong reasons” upon second viewing instead of “right reasons” which means he should NOT get those points. However, I’m going to leave it because it took me too long to get around to these comments! In your own league, please do as you wish, though. As always.

You’re the best, Melanie. Thanks for being so thorough!

  4. Dan says:

I thought Anthony had talked about his parents’ relationship with Rachel. Also, I thought that Adam had danced on the bus – although maybe I confused him with Brady. Also Dean definitely kissed Rachel.

Also, does Fred get points for meeting Rachel’s friends? He was gone before the second group date.

    Thank you so much!

    • Sara says:

Agree that Fred shouldn’t get those points – didn’t get to meet Raven & co. since he had already been sent home. I don’t consider Ellen & Rachel friends — Ellen is Rachel’s “spirit animal” and Ellen says “I like her a lot, she’s great” but I am not sure that “spirit animal” is included within “family and/or friends”. I don’t think Ellen would invite Rachel to a BBQ at her house, for example.

      • Sara says:

Sorry, posted before I got far enough in the episode and I have additional thoughts :)

Your Anthony point: I agree. Exact conversation happens around 50/51 minutes into the episode (33 min left on Hulu) and is transcribed below:

A: I’m an oldest son. My family expected me to take care of my siblings and stuff like that. Then I have younger cousins that are like brothers that I grew up with, so I think I had the perfect childhood. I didn’t grow up in wealth or anything like that, but I think — I felt always rich in love.
R: That’s priceless, you know, to grow up rich in love.
        A: Exactly.
        R: I totally understand that.
A: I think about my parents and just that — that loving household they created. I want to do that, you know? I — I know the impact of having just a great father in my life, and I want to be that for — you know, for a kid.

I think the first sentence of the last quote can definitely be considered talking about his parents’ relationship.

Dancing on the bus: Bryce is the fireman and does the first pole dance. Kenny is next with his Chippendale’s routine. Brady the model with the teflon hair was up next doing some sort of acrobatics. Adam MAY have done a pec-flex dance-like movement but he was seated and also could just have been adjusting, so my vote is for no.

      • Bach Fantasy says:

Thank you, very right about Fred! We removed those points. Also, we updated Anthony because again, good catch on that — those timestamps are crucial!

    • Bach Fantasy says:

Good call about Fred! We will update his points to remove that. Honestly, it was so tricky to see everyone who was in that five-second shot and we didn’t realize Fred got the ax before that shot.

  5. Meghan says:

Is there a reason Anthony got double points for getting a rose to stay another week?

  6. Mike says:

Lee should get another 15 points for telling Raven that Eric was there for the wrong reasons. :)

    • Sara says:

So, here’s the thing. We just have Raven saying that Lee mentioned Eric was not good match for Rachel, no right/wrong reasons, and no direct camera evidence. Then later on, Lee tells Eric he just told Raven that Eric was the worst match because he had the most to learn, etc. because he had never been in love before. THEN in an ITM at the end of the group date he says “I think there are better guys for her.”

During the rose ceremony he said he doesn’t know why Eric’s here – but doesn’t say Eric isn’t here for the right reasons.

Net, he probably did say something to Raven about not here for the right reasons, but we have no proof and he’s categorically denying it. No points from my POV!

  7. Hannah says:

Shouldn’t Josiah have 40 points? 25 for “Getting the rose to stay another week” and 15 for “Meeting the Bachelorette’s family and/or friends”

    • Melanie says:

Josiah got a group date rose last week, so he already got rose points (rather than just regular rose ceremony points like the other guys this week).

    • Bach Fantasy says:

We were confused about Josiah too since he was barely featured in the episode at all. But yes, Melanie is correct!

  8. Tamara says:

I think we need a new category for “Giving the Bachelorette a lapdance” because 5 generic dancing points is not enough for Kenny’s Chippendale demonstration ;-) Really hope they send him to paradise!

    • Bach Fantasy says:

HAHAHA Kenny is amazing. I love him and am so bummed I didn’t draft him. The wrestler thing threw me off.

  9. Melanie says:

Hi! First of all apologies for the novel I wrote Tuesday morning. I’m obviously over eager. And for responding to so many people before you do – just trying to minimize work since you guys already do so much!

I scored my league a bit differently based on things I saw, but I did want to just point out that Fred tells the camera he’s falling in love with her as he’s leaving in the car.

Thanks for all you do, and congrats on the move to Denver, I love it there!

    • Sara says:

Agree with Melanie on Fred: “I was falling in love with her. I can say that I was.” – 42-43 minutes into the episode

    • Bach Fantasy says:

Hi Melanie! We apologize for not responding sooner! No worries on responding, we’re going to try and be better about responding to comments sooner as we move forward :)

I will update Fred’s points accordingly! Thank you!

  10. Sara says:

Like Melanie I hope you don’t mind all my comments on other people! Helps me keep track and just want to support with time-stamps when I can!

New thoughts (none of which require stat corrections, don’t worry!):

    1) Careful rewatching proves that my man MR. HARRISON was the first to comfort Rachel with a pat on the back! The comforting transpired as such according to Hulu’s closed-captioning:

Chris: You good? (Ed. note: Hulu even labels his name! As though we wouldn’t recognize the dulcet tones of his voice.)
Rachel: Yes. (Ed. note: OBVIOUSLY because she’s a queen)

    – Rachel, we’re all here for you. (Ed. note: no name shown)
    – We’re here for you. (Ed. note: no name shown)

That’s so sweet (Ed. note: Rachel’s voice but Hulu didn’t name her)
Man: We’re all your guys for a little while. (Ed. note: Love that at this point Hulu is like, F– it, these men are all the same person with different amounts of facial hair.)

    [Laughing]
I appreciate that. (Ed. note: again no label but Rachel’s voice)

I’m good, though. (Ed. note: again no label but Rachel’s voice)
Thank you, guys. (Ed. note: again no label but Rachel’s voice)

You sure? (Ed. note: no name shown)
Yes, yes. I’m good. (Ed. note: again no label but Rachel’s voice)

I’m great, actually. (Ed. note: again no label but Rachel’s voice; she is thinking, FOR REAL I’m a grown-ass woman leave me alone)

    2) Separately Eric didn’t say it to Rachel so no points, but he did make the comment “Lee has a lot of snake in his DNA” which is really just a fantastic insult. I’m going to think of other bad creatures and start using it — “That girl has a lot of tarantula in her DNA. That guy has a lot of poison dart frog in his DNA.”

    3) Also, can Alex start getting extra points for his outfits? I know Milton was supposed to be the clotheshorse but did you SEE that purple zebra-striped blazer at the rose ceremony? Maybe he should get negative points if he -doesn’t- wear something ridiculous, now that I have these high expectations for craziness.

Thanks again for scoring week-in and week-out!

    • Bach Fantasy says:

Thank you, Sara! Love your timestamps and your commitment. Cannot get over Alex’s clothes. We were DYING at that zebra blazer.

Love that “Lee has a lot of snake in his DNA” comment too. Gold.
