Season 20, Episode 5: Points

Vaminos a Mexico! The contestants frolicked through Mexico City with the carefree innocence of people who don’t read the news and have never heard of El Chapo.

Wildcard points would have gone to the first lady to go for a swim (we thought Mexico = beaches or a pool of some sort) and yet no one took a dive. So no wildcard points tonight.

It was also the first cliffhanger of the season (no rose ceremony), poorly timed for our Mid-Season Draft. ALAS, the same thing happened last year so we have a road map. Come back later this afternoon for the official unveiling of the Season 20 Mid-Season Draft Rules & Regs. We out.

    Hello!
For Amanda – in point categories, it says there are only 5 points for mentioning previous relationship not 10. Also, did Lauren H. go to a concert and I just completely blanked? Or is the fashion show considered a concert? Thank you!

    • Melanie says:

Shoot, one more thing- does Olivia get interruption points for her super stealth stalker attack on Ben and Emily’s 1:1 time?

      • Bach Fantasy says:

Updated Amanda’s and Olivia’s points, good call!

Lauren H. and Ben stopped in front of a sweet Mexican man playing a harp (or some other large instrument…it was dark) so I counted that as a concert because they stood in front of him and made out for what seemed like 10 minutes. It was more of a street performance than a concert, I suppose. I was feeling generous!

  2. cpowellworks says:

Who won the wildcard points this week?

  3. Hello says:

What happened to getting a rose to stay another week for everyone?

  4. Kim says:

Are there points for Caila saying I’m falling in love with you to Ben during the Spanish lesson? And Ben saying it to Lauren, jubilee, and Olivia? And what about Emily expressing fear of a date activity (cooking)? And for Olivia interrupting Emily’s one on one time? Lastly, are there any points for Emily telling Ben that Olivia is not there for the right reasons? Thanks!!

    • Bach Fantasy says:

      Hi Kim!

      – Caila did indeed receive points for saying that to Ben.
      – There are no points given for the Bachelor saying anything to you.
      – I listened carefully for Emily to express fear and she didn’t say she was “scared” per se; she more said that she didn’t know what she was doing and she didn’t like to cook.
      – Olivia’s interruption points are already included.
      – Unfortunately, Emily never said the phrase “right reasons” so we are not giving her those points. We might change this category next year to be an action rather than a phrase, so that contestants don’t have to actually say the phrase to earn the points. As it stands however, Emily’s words do not count.

      Thanks!

  5. Lauren H said she was falling for Ben to the camera! :)

  6. Meghan says:

JoJo asks if she can steal Ben after he sends Jubilee home.

    • Bach Fantasy says:

Yep, but it only counts as “interrupting” if it’s during someone’s one-on-one time. Using the phrase “steal away” is only applicable during an interruption of someone’s one-on-one time.

  7. derekcarty says:

Doesn’t Emily interrupt someone’s one-on-one time? I think it was Olivia’s at the start of the final cocktail party.

Also, when I signed up I seem to remember there being points for cursing (I think it said max five times per episode), but it’s not on the list now. Am I imagining things? Emily would be racking those up lol

And because I’m a nit-picker and want my minimum-salary punt to start churning out points, did anyone challenge the thumb cast? I know we never saw her get the medical attention, but the rule just reads “Needing medical attention at any point”. She definitely needed it at some point to get that baby on there, unless her “Twin” occupation is just what the kids call a “Doctor” nowadays.

This is my first year playing Fantasy Bachelor and it’s been so much fun. Thanks so much for this!

    • Bach Fantasy says:

      Hi! Thanks for playing.

Olivia interrupted Emily at the cocktail party, not the other way around. Those points have been awarded already to Olivia.

There are no points for cursing but we DID do a wildcard points category once for being bleeped for swearing. That must be what you’re thinking of. Either that, or you played in a different fantasy league w/ different rules. We’ve never had swearing as a regular points category.

I have been wondering about the thumb cast myself but unfortunately, we can only give points to actions/phrases shown ON the show. So until Emily is assessed by medical staff on the air, no puntos para ella. Otherwise, it opens up a can of worms.

      • derekcarty says:

Gotcha, that makes sense. I just double-checked on the interrupting, though, and Emily does interrupt Olivia during the group date cocktail party. It’s around the 39-minute mark watching on ABC.com

      • Bach Fantasy says:

Okay, Emily has been updated for the interruption. I missed it but another commenter pointed it out too. Thanks!

  8. Dan says:

Hi! Thanks again! I have a few questions…
-Doesn’t Becca say “Te amo” to Ben during the Spanish lesson?
-I think Emily interrupts Olivia’s one-on-one time on the group date?
-On Lauren H.’s date, when they are in the store trying on clothes, does she get points for wearing something native to another culture/country?
-Does Olivia cry when she’s apologizing for the “Teen Mom” comment? I thought I saw tears.
    Thank you!

    • Bach Fantasy says:

      Hi!

      – You’re right about Becca. It was in my notes and I forgot to copy it over. Updated now.
      – Another commenter mentioned Emily so I’ve updated those.
      – I thought about it, but it wasn’t traditional Mexican garb so no cultural appropriation points for Lauren H.
      – Those were crocodile tears. I watched closely too. No points for Olivia!

  9. amanda says:

I’m going to venture to say that last night was the worst episode in the history of the bachelor. Boring dates, no rose ceremony, a “cliffhanger”, and all the good drama was in the last few minutes. Don’t they know we don’t watch for “love” but for the ridiculous, over the top, made up drama that could only ever happen on a show like this?! Come on ABC! Also I really wanted Jubes to flip shit on someone (ahem..Olivia) and mayyyybe throw a punch. That’s a sure way to get those ratings up! /rant

    • Bach Fantasy says:

Agreed. Super boring episode. I think they did the cliff-hanger on purpose to muck up our mid-season draft AGAIN.

  10. Kelly says:

Doesn’t Lauren b say she is falling for him? If you count te amo for I love you then you should totally count Emily telling Ben Olivia isn’t there for the right reasons. Let’s follow the exact quote or not follow the exact quote :) :)

    • Bach Fantasy says:

Te amo is Spanish for I love you. We knew if we didn’t give those phrases to the ladies speaking Spanish, we’d have 1,000 angry comments. In order for anyone to earn points in that “right reasons” category, they gotta say the phrase. That’s the whole crux of the phrase! All the girls just called Olivia a bully. That’s not really the same thing. Saying someone isn’t here for the right reasons means you are questioning their motives for finding love on the show. Bigger accusation than simply saying, “Olivia is a bully.”

  11. Kelly says:

Fair enough. :) thank you! What about Lauren B

  12. Michaela says:

I love what you guys do but can you please double/triple check the points before you publish them? I send out the rankings then get emails, every week, about how points have changed.

    • Melanie says:

I always wait until Tuesday evening to send out rankings so that we can see how points shake out. That way, you avoid the angry emails and minimize work for yourself :-)

      • Bach Fantasy says:

We understand that, but remember that we do this in our spare time :-) We have full-time jobs and do our best to capture everything, but it’s inevitable that we will miss a few things unless we have time to rewatch episodes a few times.
