Hey Lisa! Fair point and we’re happy to discuss! A bit of background first: this category isn’t coming from an intentionally gendered place—we first made up the rule during Desiree’s season, when we played with just our friends before starting this blog. So it does apply to both men and women who turn down the Fantasy Suite invitation. We definitely didn’t intend to reverse slut-shame, either. We thought of it more as, “This contestant is presented with an opportunity to majorly advance in the competition and he/she turns it down? Negative points!”
That being said, I do see how there might be icky implications with this category, and we will definitely re-examine to see if we bring it back next season. This is an evolving game, and we really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Thanks so much!
]]>Oh, I think we’re just getting confused with semantics! We counted Whitney saying THAT as earning the “falling in love with you” points category (20 points). We only reward the 30 points for saying those three little words: “I love you.”
]]>That’s what I heard too, Bethany!
]]>I have the same points for Becca and Kaitlyn, but I have Whitney at 490 for her season total. I know Whitney had her stats corrected a couple times this season, which is where those 5 points might have been missed!
]]>I re-watched and heard the same
]]>While I TOTALLY agree that turning down the Fantasy Suite is definitely the most sane move, you don’t typically get awarded points for doing anything sane on this show. There are points for crying, being blurred out for nudity, being drunk, etc. So I think negative points makes sense in Bachelor-land! But you’d get some definite real life points in my book for turning it down! Haha
]]>I r-ewatched that scene with the wine and Whitney says “I have absolutely fallen in love with you.” I think that counts, so I’m going to award those points in my league! I’m in last place and I have Whitney, so I’m really grasping at straws here ;)
]]>Oh, sorry… I mean for the whole season. My husband still has Kaitlyn/Becca and I have Kaitlyn/Whitney.
]]>Hi April! It’s a good question about Megan, because it’s not completely black-and-white. I think she had a similar exit to Britt—both ladies knew they were probably getting eliminated, so they asked Chris how he felt about their relationships, and then he gently told them he wasn’t into it and escorted them out. In the past, we’ve doled out points for “leaving the show on their accord” when a contestant approaches the Bachelor/ette with his or her bags packed and announces they’ll be leaving. It seemed like both Megan and Britt would definitely have stayed if Chris asked them to. I took Megan’s “Okay, I’m going to go then” as ending the conversation, like understanding that she had essentially just been eliminated.
Of course, if your whole league disagrees, feel free to award those points to Megan in your league!
And I like the idea of the bonus questions a whole lot. Would you be able to email us at [email protected] with the details on that? It seems like it might be a fun bonus to incorporate into next season.
